In Response To: Ruling...? (Chuck Bower)

Moving a checker (or checkers when doubles are rolled) is certainly allowed. However, I have strongly recommended (and even occasionally required, in my director "hat") that the moved piece be left "out from the landing point" so that it is clear that the piece is being contemplated as part of the roll.

When doubles are rolled it is often difficult to re-construct the original position without using the "out-gap" technique.

Even if the 1/2 roll is mandated, when the other piece has not been moved, it is still a good idea to leave it "out" so that it is clear that it has been played as part of this roll.

I do agree with Stick, that when watching live video, that it is sometimes difficult to tell what part has been played vs yet to play. So again, it would be nice if the "out gap" were viewable to indicate the piece is part of this roll. _________________patrick (the MFIC)
