I agree with you Bill.

A final for a title, and in fact, every match of every round of a tournament should be played out fairly and legally.

Casper makes a good point though, if the event ran late and someone is going to miss a plane, then I guess a settlement is acceptable but it must be endorsed by the director.

However, I have seen other things happen.

For example, they want to go 50/50 on the money and play just a 1 point game for the title.

Another time the two finalists were very good friends. One of them already had many titles. They played in the same room where others were playing other finals (consolation, last chance, super jackpot, etc.) - so it is not as if they were hiding in a corner - and I am pretty sure, the superior player was making some poor moves that allowed his buddy to win the title.

How do you prevent someone from losing on purpose, with bad or questionable moves or cube plays?

There are other things too, example, one of them could say he's feeling too sick to concentrate on playing and he just wants to concede the match and go rest. Can the director force him to play?
