Should Major Tournament Events be Allowed to be 'Resolved' by Agreement Rather than by Play?

There are many good reasons the rule against hedging of any sort exists in tennis, just a big part of that reasoning doesn't apply to the example you chose.
There are no deal clauses at some poker tournaments but it has to be in the rules distributed to players before they enter the tournament. In backgammon banning hedging is futile and wouldn't serve much of a purpose.
A WSOP bracelet is actually worth something, a backgammon trophy is not. You can debate the meaning it has to each individual but you can't debate what you can get from one versus the other if you Ebay those bitches. They are coveted items by the masses also outside of their pure monetary value. How much do you think Mochy can get for his 2009 World Champion trophy? Lol
