I think it is important to clarify what actually took place. First of all the tournament had no Calcutta, and it was the Consolation Finals. So nobody, other than the two players involved were affected. It is my understanding that they were both anxious to get home and agreed to split the money, and play a one point match for the trophy. Obviously if there were matches following that or a Calcutta where other players could be impacted, this would be very unfair. I think neither of them should be penalized, as there was nothing particularly dishonest or unsportsmanlike in what they did. Surely if they were aware that this would be controversial, they would have just played the 11 pointer out.
