Considering the REAL Golden Rule:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_rule
this article is a offensive slap in the face.
His primo example is his 'friend' Tarango throwing a hissy fit at Wimbledon followed by a press conference accusing the chair umpire of being a cheater. His secundo example is the conniving, in control McEnroe insulting officials with apparently subtle comments. So Tarango is his goat and McEnroe his hero?
I sure hope we never (again) accept this kind of bullshit in backgammon, Tarango's nor McEnroe's, which as far as I'm concerned are off the same page.
This Fox guy writes books on how to compete? Reminds me of the worst backgammon book I ever read -- Underhanded Backgammon. The only value (and it's not worth the time investment) is to prepare yourself for the lowest of the low in terms of opponent behavior so you won't be surprised.
I read a fair number of books on optimal performance during competition. Not one of Fox's will ever be on my list. So I guess one positive came from reading this article.
Yes, the premise is true, but the examples are an insult to competitors everywhere. And if that is the norm in tennis, for once I'm glad I never took up the game. There's a lot better things to do in life than spend time with assholes who think such gamesmanship is proper.
