Didn't Jerry Grandell win pretty much everything for a couple of years?
Not really, although it almost seemed so at the time. Grandell won seven big tournaments from 1997 to 2002: the world championship in Monte Carlo once, the US Open in Texas once, the World Cup Challenge in Turkey twice, and the World Cup Challenge Giant Jackpot twice, and the Pro-Am Doubles in Nevada once.
Grandell won the 1997 World Championship in Monte Carlo. In 1998, he won the World Cup Challenge IV in Turkey, but did not place in the Giant Jackpot there. He also won the US Open Championship in Texas, but did not place in the World Cup VI there.
In 1999, Grandell returned to Turkey and won both the World Cup Challenge V and the Giant Jackpot. In the Jackpot, he beat Nack Ballard in the QF, Mike Senkiewicz in the semi, and Leonid Riskin the final. He was also First Consolation winner at both the Nordic Open and the Swedish Open.
In 2000, he won the Giant Jackpot again in Turkey, but did not place in the World Cup Challenge VI there, or in Monte Carlo. In 2001, he won a Superjackpot in Prague but did not place in the Czech Open, and was 2nd Consolation at the City of Venice tournament. In 2002, he won the Pro-Am Doubles Championship in Las Vegas, and placed in the World Championship for the first time since 1997 as the First Consolation winner.
