Your need to avoid being primed is much more urgent in the variant of the third position.

(1) A 22 point anchor is better, generally, than a 23 point anchor.

(2) In the original position the anchor is at the edge of the prime. If opponent makes good his threat to add a fourth point to his prime, you have two direct numbers out in the original position, and only one in the variant.
