Well, as I said in my initial analysis, it's not hard to believe that 20/16 13/9(3) is the best play that doesn't make the bar. So I think it's mostly a matter of estimating the timing.

Michael mentioned playing out the position, but I'd instead recommend adjusting the race and changing which backgame points White owns, and examining how the equities change. This should provide some intuitive feeling for how much timing each player has.
