Christian said something like (1), except that the initial cube level is not always one, and that there might be more than two different levels involved. (2) is too weak as a translation for his "Don't use it", but yes, it follows from (1).

I agree with "Don't use it", but I don't agree with Christian's "Neither is a very good idea". Like you, I would like to see pseudo-cubeless equities in match play rollouts, if they are based on the cube level of the original position.
