New Tournaments

Glad to hear of several newly planned ABT tournaments. Sad to hear of others which may be passing.

Discussions this weekend in Pittsburgh included potential new ABT tournaments in Seattle, DC, and in Texas (organized by Tara Mendocino and myself). At the same time, I hear of the potential demise of others -- e.g. Madison has passed, though I hear there may be efforts at a revival.

It is a dynamic community. Promotion and innovation are paramount. Simply trying to exist through history and tradition only carries one so far.

New tournament business models are requisite in changing economic times and in an evolving backgammon community. We hope to provide that in Texas -- details forthcoming.
