Purpose of clocks - an alternative to CONSIDER

I do like the mechanics of using one set of dice when playing with a clock BUT do not believe the clock itself should be mandatory for all OPEN/Championship Events. Would it solve many of the issues at hand if each player had something: a coin. piece of wood , etc that was painted green and they placed this on the board to signify that their turn was over. Same idea as pushing the button on the clock to start the opponents time . Now using one set of dice , the only difference is the actual clock. thoughts?
