Of course one's first instinct is to hit, but White's checker on her 1pt is out of play and hitting it brings it back into play. I suspect that bar/24* will win more gammons but win fewer games than bar/23.

If we eschew the hit and play bar/23, then 23/22 looks like the best ace, letting both back checkers see daylight. If we hit with bar/24*, then 8/6 is a possible 2. However, it still looks to me that leaping White's prime is more urgent. So I'm down to bar/24*/22 versus bar/22.

I'm inclined to leave White's blot where it is and play bar/22, but I don't have a good feel for the win/gammon tradeoff.
