gamesgrid - you probably mean GridGammon

GamesGrid began as a backgammon site in 1996 as a product of Cyberarts, a San Francisco company, and for a while was "the place to play" online backgammon. The site added poker in 2005 as part of the SkillGames Network, stopped accepting U.S. players in February 2007, and closed later that year. Currently, the large online company GameAccount might be offering poker and/or backgammon under the GamesGrid name, but I don't know.
Personally, I believe that the company's concentration on developing its poker room was to the detriment of backgammon at the Gamesgrid site, and that the poker room did so poorly that the impact of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 was a contributing reason but perhaps not the main reason for the site's demise. Also worth noting with regard to backgammon is the challenge that GamesGrid and other online backgammon sites faced from Play65/GammonEmpire, which started in 2004 and outstripped all its competitors in the online backgammon gaming business.
But enough ancient history -- the site you probably want is www.gridgammon.com, which opened in 2008 or early 2009 as a no-gambling backgammon-only site using the old Gamesgrid player account base and the old GamesGrid software, and is run by GamesGrid's former community director Gabriella Barclay.
To join GridGammon, you'll need to be invited/recommended by someone who already has an account at GridGammon.
