First of all, though he might not be evenly matched with Falaffel, Mik is indeed a very capable player - he's been a constant fixing in the DBgF top-10 for the last few years:

Furthermore, he just received the DBgF Grand Master title about a month ago, securing his 4th norm, a bot-norm, by playing 5 live tournament matches of at least 17 points, at an avg PR of 3 (on XGR++ Gigantic, all errors count).

Finally, you can see him in the Danish line-up of the DK vs. the World match - should give you a hint that he's not your regular journeyman.

I didn't see this match, so I have no clue what impression Falaffel had of Mik at this point.

Mik's double is clearly a theoretical blunder. There's no chance Falaffel is going to drop this, and he would have to be an even larger dog to justify this cube. So unless he was feeling ill or completely tired, that 8-cube is a blunder.

But Falaffel must have missed the 16-cube at least once along the way here. I understand that he doesn't double at the last position, considering he didn't double one roll earlier, as he didn't really improve by getting the fifth point in return for Mik escaping one without stepping on the bar meanwhile.

As for the 4-2 checkerplay - I would probably have made the deuce sending Mik in the air. Not doing so, however, indicates that Falaffel might be overestimating his "non-contact" chances from here, which also might tell us, why he subsequently misses his doubles.

Very interesting sequence!
