Blue to play 64

The only serious candidates are 18/8 and 18/14 13/7. Both allow us to play safely no matter we roll next turn. I prefer the former, as it should make it easier to get a near-optimal spread of spares as we come home.

The Nactation is somewhat counterintuitive. Whenever one checker is moved entirely on the far side of the board (18/14), and another is played from the far outer board into the outer board (14/8), the play belongs in one of the split families, S (Split) or Z (Reverse split). The play 18/8 moves the smaller die on the far side, and so belongs in the Z family. Because the S family is empty, we can also use S to describe 18/8.

S (Split) = Z (Reverse split) = 18/8
