Hitting only one checker seems unnecessary focussed on escaping. Escaping to the bar-point is good enough. The tougher question is: if blue would hit the 7- and 4-point, would he then have enough time to escape? The problem is that blue after throwing a 3 still needs a 3- or 6 to jump the second part of the white prime, it seems a bit too much.

I disagree. Hit 2. 10/4**(2). After every entry you have an effective cube (apart from 33 or 22, perhaps 11), some are takes, most are drops. After every fan, you are too good, and should play on. You dont need to win the game right now, you only need to get to a positive action cube decision right now. You would be delighted to get an error from your opponent here, especially with the gammon chances being so good.
