Camera setups for videorecording matches?

How far away are we from a device that can translate the match directly into a machine readable match file? My hunch is that the technology currently exists, it's just that nobody's applied it to backgammon yet.

Seems to me that recording the video and translating to match file format by hand is living in the stone age. (c:
