Bob --
Thanks for the interest, I, too, think it can be a most interesting event.
We do intend to discuss the paremeters of analysis with a panel of experts to determine the most appropriate and efficient methodology, certainly from a time perspective. I have not considered the other analysis modes you've mentioned but will be open to discussion to all types of analysis. Despite possible shortcomings, PR seems the most recognized, accepted, and familiar basis. Again, the analysis parameters will be established and announced at least sixty days before the tournament, so players might have the opportunity to accomplish any desired study, familiarization, strategizing, etc.
The above discussion can also include an appropriate tie-breaker method. If PR (or similar) is calculated to two decimal places I think a tie is highly unlikely, though certainly not impossible.
Your concern of number and length of matches is well-founded. I think a field of sixteen would be ideal and, perhaps, it should be limited to sixteen -- first-come, first-served with a waiting list, if necessary, beyond that. Perhaps nine point matches might be better w/ a 9, 5, 1, as necessary, playoff.
We hope to attract a strong field of players and to establish a fair, balanced method of analysis that is accurate without giving anyone undue advantage. That is why I wish a panel of several experts, including perhaps Xavier, the XG developer (I don't know him and have yet to contact him), to advise in this regard.
Regards, Bill
