Daily Quiz 4/5

1. I think our priority is to build a board so that we can contain a shot if we hit one. 9/4 is the obvious play, but sometimes in these sorts of positions it's better to double slot. After 6/4, we can double slot with either 6/3 or 8/5. 8/5 seems a little bold with White's strong board, so I guess I'll try 6/4 6/3.
2. We can play safe by breaking a point, or we can play 6/5 6/4. At first glance, 6/5 6/4 seems risky because it leaves a double shot against White's strong board. However, unless White rolls snake eyes followed by a couple of quick 6's, we'll get into trouble only if we get hit, enter quickly, and are outprimed. Given White's poor timing, this looks like a relatively small risk to take. On the other hand, if we break our prime, then White may escape a checker and keep her board. Our home-board gaps may force us to give White shots later, when it could be fatal. 6/5 6/4, trying to fill in a gap, looks best to me.
3. White needs 25% winning chances to take. Blue reblots with 55 43 33 31, or 6 rolls. If he cleans up the blot, he can still have difficulties clearing the 9pt. I think White can take. Blue kills his gammons by doubling, but I think Blue does not win enough gammons here for that to make him hold the cube. D/T is my assessment.
