I totally agree with you that a lot of the allure of the game for the backgammon community as a whole is the uncertainty of the game.

That does not mean there is not room for the rare competition among the most technically skillful. The subject event will likely be comparatively small, is comparatively expensive, and will draw from a select field of potential players. It is optional. The vast majority of the play, otherwise, will remain the traditional game.

The development of the bots over the last twenty years or so has been, in my opinion, wonderful for the game and has advanced the game significantly. The bots are here, they will be here, they will continue to improve -- other than the most casual and recreational players, most use the bots for analysis, study, practice, and play. In my opinion, going forward, the range of use of the bots will only increase in scope and within the playing population. I think it only a natural extension of the this usage of the bots to have limited competition utilizing them.
