It depends on what you mean by "solved." Bots still can't handle extreme backgames. However, programming a bot to be able to handle extreme backgames wouldn't constitute a "major revolution" in my mind. I'm just saying that if we are interested in a major revolution, the direction to look in is the region far from equilibrium, where actual human play operates.
