eXtreme Gammon Version: 2.03

Something I have been doing with XG rollout files of late is to insert a comment inside the file giving whatever information I think may be useful. If someone later asks me for a copy of the file, even when it is mixed in among their other rollouts, they will have a fair chance at determining the where the rollout came from.

  • Rollateer — This could also be inserted as the name of the player on roll.
    –
  • Bot version — The version number at the bottom of a rollout gives the version of XG that was used to output a rollout. That is not necessarily the version of XG that was used to make a rollout. Ditto regarding METS. For this reason, I like to document the version and MET in a comment. If XG is later determined to have a bug that invalidates certain rollouts, this information will help me to determine which rollouts to discard. (And remember, XG has already has already had this sort of bug. Problems with the opening book introduced a bias into all XG1 rollouts that had used it.)
    –
  • File name — Anyone seeing the rollout published on the Internet can use the file name to request a copy.
    –
  • Nacbracs — As a favor to anyone who receives this file from me, I include the nacbracs. It (yes, “nacbracs” is singular) can be copied into whatever summary sheet that person maintains. Putting the nacbracs in a comment also relieves me of the work of locating the nacbracs, and pasting it into whatever BGO message I may be composing (such as this one).
    –
  • URL — For reference later, this URL links to the thread on the Internet where the rollout is posted. That way, one can quickly find the perspicacious remarks of posters like you.

As I implied in a comment to Stick, I have been very satisfied by my experiments with XG’s comments. I would like to see the idea adopted by other rollateers.

Indeed, your comments are welcome!

Mike
