In Response To: The next major revolution in backgammon bots +1 (Daniel Murphy)

After reading Petch's description of his bot, and noting the fact that he was talking about backgames, and noting that he says it plays an opening 21 as 6/5 6/4 and an opening 31 as 8/7 8/5, it seems pretty clear that we are talking about extreme backgames indeed.

Oh yeah, did I mention the huge points per game average? This is exactly what one would expect of a bot that can't handle extreme backgames.

If I were Petch I would turn down Stick's offer, at least until his bot plays a long session against a human (with quality all around bg skills) who knows how to play against a bot "trying" for extreme backgames.

By the way Petch, did you play the bot yourself? I recall that you were more than halfway decent (Stick would say you were a donkey, but whatever) about a decade ago when we used to play at "the Zone".
