This could also be seen as a colossal waste of time. I'm happy to do it as I love the game but isolated as you list it it's just that, a big waste of time. Now, if you're working under the assumption of props and side bets along the way you may get somewhere. This doesn't determine who is the best player though, only who might be the best money player. I imagine very few understand all the sick intricacies of match play. Their ignorance isn't exposed because such situations come up so rarely. Calling the best money player the best backgammon player period is like calling the best NLHE player the best poker player.
