Typically you play for stakes where the utility of money curve doesn't bend (or jump) much within the possible outcomes.

But then again, if the cube goes too far up in the air (maybe you are also the box in a 5 man chouette), typically, the loss will hurt you more than the gain of winning.

Thus, typically, it's the person to win big that offers the truncated part of the settlement to the loosers, in order to secure his win.

In your example, settling for +7 would be the typical amount I think.
