From what I've read about Danish backgammon, the Danish tournament probably should count more. :-)
In golf and tennis world rankings more weight is accorded to "major tournaments" (U.S. Open, Masters, British Open, PGA in golf; Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open in tennis), and less weight on other U.S., European, and Asian professional tournaments. No weight is placed on lesser touranments (e.g Nationwide Tour in golf). I advocate having a similar scheme in backgammon. Have the major world backgammon organizations decide in advance which tournaments should count towards world ranking and assign each a weighting factor based on past data and opinions such as prestige, size of field, strength of the participants, size of purse, length of matches, and maybe some other intangibles.
