I wouldn't go so far as to say that if you do what Paul suggests, you will "zip through" security, but it is what I did going through Midway to/from the Chicago events last month. I left the clock batteries in the clock, with the clock turned off, and the clock inside its box. The instructions were folded up inside the box, in case there were questions about what the clock was, or what it did. If anyone asked any questions, I was going to give them the instructions to read, then ask them to explain them to me!
