SURVEY Q5 - If you could change ONE thing...

This logical step is still some time off, I think. In the meantime, we have to figure out how to transcribe every match of a tournament. Some possibilities:
- Hire hand transcribers. (Not really practical, and prone to error.)
- Use hi-res video cameras and software that can read the dice and interpret the moves. (I haven't heard of anyone doing this reliably yet.* Would require video equipment at every table.)
- Use electronic boards such as iPads or Microsoft Surface Tables. (But not everyone likes playing on electronic boards. Expensive.)
Wouldn't it be great if you could transcribe a whole tournament? I wonder how many copies you could sell at, say, $25 a pop?
* An alternate, perhaps better approach would be to use still photography. A camera would be mounted directly above the board, facing straight down. The camera would be activated by remote control (either a cable or bluetooth). The best thing would be if you could hook up the camera remote to the game clock so that as the player hit the clock a picture would be taken of the board. (The players would have to be careful not to lean over the board or have their hands over the board when the clock is hit.)
The fact that one photo is taken per turn, at the end of the turn, with the dice on the board, should make it easier for software to deduce the moves.
