I don't believe that comparing the 2nd and third rolls plays side by side is as much about helping you through memorization as it is by helping you see how the reasoning of the match scores affect your game plan thinking over the board. When I see a play that is right to split at one score and right to slot at another, I do not try to memorize which is which, but I try to figure out why you do one at one score and one at another. If you understand why, you don't have to memorize thousands of plays, which only a very few gifted people are capable of doing and then, only after many hours of study.
