c.) Raise worldwide interest in backgammon ... particularly if the world ranking extended down to the top 1000 or so and was updated weekly. Tournament attendance would rise, instructors would benefit as people clamor for lessons, and television producers may start to look at backgammon. If the ranking were based on a numerical value that could be assigned to every person (elo, PR, error rate, or average Master Points/T), then that number could be used to curb sandbagging at tournaments ... sharks playing in intermediate events. The sharks would be obliged to play in the Open division. I'm sure that some intermediates have stop playing in Ts because of sandbagging.
