In chess, there are national organizations with national rating systems, and an international organization with an international rating system. FIDE's is the (only) international rating, correct? In the USA, USCF has and rates about 80,000 members. But as of May 2012, there are only 2769 Americans on the current FIDE list, of which only 1420 are listed as active.
THERE ARE ACTUALLY 2 RATING LISTS...one is from WORLD CHESS FEDERATION-FIDE and other NATIONAL RATING LISTS---
US Chess federation does not pay the fee to FIDE for world ratings of small tournaments or local-regional ones, so not many US players get on the FIDE list. USCF rates them all for the national list.
