Tournament format

This format would be slightly different to the one used in Berlin (no Consolation for example). Poker Club, no BG beginners (they all know the cube and matchplay). Target is to have 16+ players from the beginning.

What do you think about the format?

5 preliminary rounds ('5-Point-Matches') - first 3 rounds: random draw in advance - Round 4+5 'Swiss draw' = pairing players who are equal in points

(Idea: everybody plays a couple of matches none is out after losing 1 or 2 matches, time management, rd.1-3 you can immediately start when both have finished)

if we have an odd number of players in any/each round there will be one player having a Bye, rounds 1-3 random draw, rounds 4+5 the Bye goes to a player with the less points

players with 3 losses are eliminated/cannot play Round 4 or 5, remaining draw will be made without them, so everybody plays at least 3 matches (thats better to have no setups without motivation of winning)

4 Prizes: Winner (1.) Finalist (2.) 2 x Semifinalist (3./4.) (*with just up to 10 entries in total maybe Playoff for 3rd place)

Nunmber of players who advance from the preliminary to the KO-stage is depending on total number of entries:

-10* -> best 4 advance to Semifinal

11-15 -> best 6 advance (#1 and #2 advance to Semi/ 3,#4,#5,#6 advance to Quarterfinal)

16+ -> best 8 advance to Quarterfinal

(This system works with every number of Buy-Ins and guarantees excitement)

After the preliminary stage a finale table is contructed for the seedings (and the tiebreak) in this order: - number of Points in the preliminary stage - number of matches won (number of points without having had a Bye) - Buchholz score (with discarding worst opponent) - direct encounter balance withing the group of tied players - random draw

if players are tied in points after the preliminary rounds on the last place (#8) for spot(s) in the KO-stage there will be a tie-break. One or more rounds of 1-Point-Matches. Bye's for the Tiebreak will be awarded in the same order, but everybody who is tied with number 8 has a chance to qualify, no one is excluded by 2nd evaluation

-------------------------- The Computer does a proper draw, calculations etc

Buchholz score means you add up all points you opponents have managed to get (=as more as stronger your competition was in theory = similiar to chess. Buchholz score is not influenced that much llike in chess if you had a good start or a bad cause there is a random draw for first 3 rounds)

-----------------------------

Lottery to attract players not to go?!

btw. I like the idea to make a lottery for an entry fee or so for everybody who has played at least 3 matches and is still around when the final is over/prize giving :)
