Blue must weigh the benefit of forcing a few additional board-breaking numbers against the benefit of creating a safer bear-in. 8/6 8/7 creates only two immediate blotting numbers (55 and 33), 7/5 7/6 three (61 and 44) and 6/3 six (65 63 55 and 33. In each case, blotting numbers will be reduced by 1 if White has left his 21 point. I don't think 6/3 is worth the price in immediate blotting numbers, plus the increased future danger for having delayed the bear-in. 8/6 8/7 is the safest play for one roll, but there's a catch. 7/5 7/6 leaves three blotting numbers on Blue's next turn and also on Blue's following turn. But after 8/6 8/7, Blue is likely to bring only one checker in from the seven point. That position will give Blue four to six blotting numbers, depending on where Blue's spares are. I'd guess that 7/5 7/6 is probably the best play, even though it leaves one additional immediate blotting number.
