Are you sure you'd pass at 1a 2a PC against everyone? It seems to me that three of the four plays are prone to lead to more complicated positions, particularly two down, and even two up might well lead to a blot hitting contest. One is giving up very little in taking and, against a much weaker player (you must play quite a few of those, even at this score) you take away their chance to actually start the DMP game with a strong roll (as with Simborg Rule).

BTW, within a few hours of reading the post, I was at 4-4 to 5pts and got the 43 opener. Would have split, but knowing how close they were I was able to play my preferred two down which I virtually always do for £. Won this 2nd round match, against a player who I had never beat in 10 previous attempts, and went on to win the 16 player event.
