This thread, however, is whether or not we can have a separate system that rates the Open players based on their performance in both the Open and Masters events.
For a ranking based on performance (that is, placing) in both Master and Open events, you'd have to decide how many points to award to players who place in Masters events, relative to points awarded in Open events. But here is a ranking for performance (placing) in Masters events only in 2012. I've awarded points according to the table that follows the ranking list.
Name Points Bill Phipps 40 Howard Markowitz 23.875 Victor Ashkenazi 23.5 Justin Nunez 20 Matt Cohn-Geier 18 Karen Davis 16 Nick Mourtos 16 Ray Fogerlund 13.5 Matvey Natanzon 13 Kit Woolsey 10 Dion Hogan 8 Carter Mattig 8 Ed O'Laughlin 8 Jeremy Bagai 7.875 Malcolm Davis 7.75 Harvey Gillis 7.25 Paul Weaver 6.5 Gregg Cattanach 6 Dmitriy Obukhov 6 Stuart Thomson 5.5 Mark Antranikian 5 Mike Corbett 4 Tobias Hellwag 4 Jeb Horton 4 Neil Kazaross 4 Nick Maffeo 4 Alfred Mamlet 4 Bill Riles 4 Alvaro Savio 4 Mike Senkiewicz 4 Drew Giovanis 3.25 Bill Robertie 2.75 Bob Koca 2.25 Steve Brown 2 Gerry Tansey 2 Kazuhiko Yotsushiko 2
Masters Event Players in the event Points for 1st Points for 2nd Points for 3rd/4th Sunshine 8 4 2 0 Cal State 31 15.5 7.75 3.875 Las Vegas 16 8 4 2 Illinois 8 4 2 0 Pittsburgh (LD) 32 16 8 4 Golden Gate 16 8 4 0 Wisconsin 8 4 2 0 Minnesota 4 2 1 0 Michigan 32 16 8 4 Los Angeles 40 20 10 5 Chicago 32 16 8 4 Florida 8 4 2 0 Atlanta 11 5.5 2.75 0 Nevada 13 6.5 3.25 0 Ohio 4 2 0 0 Central States 16 8 4 0 34th Pittsburgh 18 9 4.5 2.25 New Mexico 16 8 4 0 US Open 16 8 4 0 New York Metro 32 16 8 0 (Players in event includes rebuys, points awarded are not "calibrated" to other tournament events, and only placers named at the chicagopoint.com results pages got points.)
Note that only two players, Howard Markowitz and Victor Ashkenazi, make the Top 10 in both this ranking of Masters performance and in the final ABT standings based on main event performance.
