Blue is Player 1XGID=-B-b-BCBB-aAcB--b--cca--A-:1:-1:-1:41:0:0:0:7:10 Blue to play 41 Put me in the no-hit camp.
Although I don’t think the two choices are necessarily close, I don’t have a strong sense that mine is best! That said, here is my thinking:
- Hitting leaves two blots and 18 shots. Half the time, Blue will end up on the bar, outboarded 3-to-2. When Blue dances, White will be shooting a direct to pick up a second blot.
- White is running short on time. Making the 4pt plays into this. If White cannot begin running on the next roll, he may feel the need to play safe. Combinations of 3, 4 and 5 may force him off the midpoint. Other times, he will choose to bury another checker on his 1pt or 2pt.
- By making the 4pt, Blue gives himself the stronger board. From there he can work to hit another checker or contain the blot he already has trapped.
- When all else fails, Blue can always play a holding game from his 3pt anchor. Of course, this applies regardless of his decision here.
