Why I like PR better than MWC for training purposes

Just to be clear, I certainly prefer EMG, despite its limitations, as a training tool when I'm studying, precisely for the reasons you mention. I just don't think it's the right tool for adjudicating tournaments.
What I see happening is that people get comfortable with PR as a training tool and then think that it's natural to use it for a tournament. For someone who trains a lot and who uses PR as the main metric for training progress, there is certainly a natural desire to be rewarded according to the same metric that they have been training towards. But I think this is a mistake. I do not think that the ultimate purpose of training is to lower one's PR; the ultimate purpose of training is to play better, with PR being nothing more than a potentially useful tool. Having a PR tournament just reinforces what I see as the wrong attitude towards the game.
