3-digits versus 4-digits — A Warning about Rounding

In my XG rollout files, I like to include comments with nacbracs rounded to 3-digits. This is because my habit is to publish rollouts using 4-digits. This way, I can have my cake and eat it too: 3 digits in the comments, and 4 digits in the rollout. In XG, I press Ctrl+E, and let it create the 3-digit values directly from its unrounded data.

There can be errors when rollout data are rounded to 4-digits, and then rounded a second time to get 3-digits. For example, 0.12345 rounds to 0.1235, and 0.1235 rounds to 0.124. Note, however, that 0.12345 rounds to 0.123. That is why it is important to press Ctrl+E, and let XG do the rounding.

This problem is also one of the reasons why I have GnuBg set to display 6 digits.

Mike
