Coincidentally, this morning I was playing around with a similar reference position that Stick gave in one of his Gammon Village articles. Here is the position:

		White is Player 2 score: 0 pip: 93 Unlimited Game Jacoby Beaver pip: 57 score: 0 Blue is Player 1

eXtreme Gammon Version: 2.03

Blue wins about 25% gammons from here. I was curious what a third or fourth checker back on the 12pt would do to the gammon rate. A third checker back boosts Blue's gammons to about 45%; a fourth takes them up to about 67%.

I didn't bother to move a fifth checker back, but if the pattern continues, I'd have guessed it takes Blue's gammon rate up into the high 80s. XGR++ puts it at 83%, a bit lower than I expected, but in the ballpark -- diminishing returns and all that -- and without all that math. Seems like a good reference position to keep know.
