Mike, I did not analyze this position too much over the board, made this play pretty quickly. I can tell you that it was not a desperate play. I felt it gives me the best chance to win the match. Possible explanations why it's right:
1. Bg like chess is not always about the numbers (amount of shots, blots etc). This play makes my position most flexible.
2. It turns his best numbers - 66,55, 65 into anti jokers.
3. I don't value 4 point block at this position too much as any 6 allow him to reconnect with outside checker leaving me little chance and time to turn the game around
4. He has 2 more blots outside. His position is a little off balance (until he rolls 6 or 5 to connect his blots). Good time to take a chance, especially when his gammons don't count and mine do
5. If he hits, I can still win from his low points. In some scenarios, when he hits on 3 and I reenter on 1 or 2 - I still can have compact position with some potential.
P.S. Petko told me after the match that it was the play he did not want to see and felt he is going to dance.
