I did think about it but as I said, it seemed too disconnected to me, stranding the back checker and giving Black free rein to pop out another checker and control the outfield.

However, I guess you could argue that Black already has so much outfield control, and the alternative puts too many checkers out of play, that it's the lesser evil.
