In general, hitting in the outfield is better than hitting in the inner board for a couple of reasons. First, if you hit in the outfield you're gaining more pips in the race. Second, you are not leaving any direct shots. In not leaving any direct shots you also aren't leaving any double hitting numbers. There will be times when you fight for an inner board point instead of hitting in the outfield but I don't think this is one of them.

I would hit 14/10*. It leaves one more blot but again, no directs and sixes happen to be duplicated to hit and make his bar point. There are also way too many shots and no hope of an attack being carried out hitting inside the inner board so I am deterred.
