I can't believe that making the 5pt would be literally the worst choice at any score. It must be better than, say, 6/5 3/1.

But anyway, my logic is simply that I don't see any other strong candidate. Everything leaves a lot of blots and shots so we just have to hunt around for the play that makes the best asset. It's possible that at some gammon-savish score that anchoring is imperative but I'd be surprised if making the 5pt isn't best at the scores you mention.
