The relative value of hitting versus pointing does indeed show up when you compare 21$-11 with 41$-11; if I recall correctly you're suppose to hit with 41$-11 but not 21$-11.

With 21$-31 and 41$-31 you're supposed to hit either way, although pointing is a bigger error in the case of 41$-31.

The present decision is slightly different because Blue is further ahead in the race with only one checker back, so getting into a fight should be somewhat devalued.
