Nowruz (Persian New Year) will be celebrated at the Freer and Sackler Galleries (part of the Smithsonian) this Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 11 am to 5 pm. Backgammon will be part of the festivities, and eight of our local players are helping in this event. All players are invited to stop by to enjoy the atmosphere and to see all that the Freer and Sackler have to offer. This link has all the information from the museum- http://www.si.edu/Events/Calendar/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D103918969

The eight local players (lead by Majid Jahanbani) who have generously donated their time are:

Karen Davis- Karen is the Chairman of the United States Backgammon Federation (USBGF) and an expert backgammon player as well.

Lilly Iravani- Lilly has been a regular at both local backgammon clubs after meeting us at last year's event at the Freer and Sackler. She is improving her game and having a great time doing it.

Majid Jahanbani- Majid is a winner of many local events and has had much success in the Intermediate events on the American Backgammon Tour.

Ed O'Laughlin- World recognized backgammon expert for several decades, currently ranked #18 on the lastest Giant of Backgammon list from 2011, Ed also directed the recent inaugural Beltway Backgammon Championships on the American Backgammon tour.

Frank Raposa- Champion of the just concluded Beltway Backgammon Championships on the American Backgammon Tour. Frank won 9 of 10 matches in the main tournament against top competition, including defeating backgammon legend Neil Kazarros in his semi-final match. He is also the Co-director of the Northern Virginia Backgammon Club.

Larry Richard- Winner of many of our weekly backgammon events at the Northern Virginia Backgammon Club. He and his wife Terry participated last year.

Terry Richard- Terry participates in our local events when her schedule permits.

Bill Finneran-

Hope to see you there in person or in spirit.......
