When I am completely lost, after going through all the steps, I have another strategy that often helps sort things out. It's sort of a take-off on Woolsey's Law.

I pretend I am sitting in my opponent's seat and ask myself what play I am hoping the other player will not find, and that's the play I make.

This offers a new perspective that can often clear things up considerably.
