Hit and clear the 7pt is also my play and for the same reasons.

It might seem that leaving a gap in our prime is dangerous, making it harder to clear the 8pt later, but I think that it's actually more dangerous to leave an extra checker outside.

Clearing 7pt before 8pt is a standard tactic against 2pt game, providing you have spares on 6pt. Only 61 leaves a shot and you not forced to play other 6s behind his anchor.
