It's been a couple of years since reading Magriel, and I gather from the context that he got the answer wrong so i guess I'm on my own.

the choice seems to be

1) hit and kill 6s 24/23* 7/6 7/5 or 2) don't hit and kill nothing.

in a prime vs prime, the winner is usually who can hang on to the prime longest. I don't particularly want to hit here, as that helps white's timing, but i think i have to. hit and kill 6s.
