In Response To: Reminded again last night why I HATE non-Legal Moves (Phil Simborg)

I agree it is not in the spirit of fair play to profit off an opponent who makes some illegal play that is not in his favor. But having no penalty at all for illegal plays might tempt unfair players to make an illegal play to their advantage: if it is caught, no penalty...and if it is not caught they get away with it.

A reasonable solution seems to be to just deduct a certain amount of time from the clock. Seems the punishment more fits the crime. And just one more reason to play with a clock...
