Here's a dilemma if playing legal moves

As for Jeb's comment about not owing anything to your calcutta partners, let's just say we disagree on this one.
There is a subtle distinction here.
When you enter a tournament you owe it to the tournament, and to the game of backgammon, to take the tournament seriously in a spirit of good competition. That means trying to win and being a good sport about it. (I don't think there is any controversy so far.)
But when you say that you "owe" something to your calcutta owners, you seem to be saying that the interests those participating in a side bet should somehow influence your behavior in the tournament. That would be wrong. And I don't think it's what you mean. I think all you really mean is what I said above -- that you should take the tournament seriously in a spirit of good competition. But you should do that anyway, whether you have calcutta owners or not.
If you allow yourself to be influenced by side bets, you start down the slippery slope to collusion. That's why many sports don't allow side bets -- even bets on your own team to win.
